In 2011, photographer Alex Kim met Yousuf, a porter on the Latok expedition. Yousuf’s silent act of giving his shoes to an injured cook deeply moved Alex, revealing the power of simple human kindness.
The children of Surongo Village in Pakistan express their dreams and desire to learn through their eyes. Despite the humble classrooms, their passion for education shines. Through my camera, I hoped to capture and share their pure aspirations.
Without a school, this child might have remained illiterate. After graduating from Alex Elementary, they advanced to a nearby middle school. This photo shows them shortly after starting school, holding a childhood picture.
In Mondrong Village, with 20 households and 200 residents, 50 of whom are students, there was neither a proper school nor teachers. In 2023, five classrooms were built, and in 2024, the second Alex Elementary School was established.
